Frontline staff from Eastern Water and Sanitation Company Limited (EWSC) participated in a five day Water Quality Management and Plant Optimization Training in Chipata aimed at strengthening water quality management and enhancing operational efficiency across the company's service areas in Eastern Province.

The training was conducted by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), in collaboration with the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council Nwasco - National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO), the Innovation Capacity Development (ICON) Programme, and with support from the German Development Bank (KFW)

The programme brought together EWSC Plant Operators, Plant Supervisors, and Laboratory Assurance Officers for both theoretical and practical sessions designed to enhance their knowledge and skills in the operation and maintenance of water treatment equipment provided by Unicef Zambia including multi meters, jar testing equipment, digital chlorine meters, and turbidity meters.

The training also focused on water treatment plant optimization, equipping participants with practical skills to improve treatment processes, optimise chemical dosing, reduce operational inefficiencies, and enhance overall plant performance.

Participants gained hands on experience in water quality monitoring, process control, troubleshooting, and data driven decision making to support the production and distribution of safe drinking water.

The training strengthened EWSC's capacity to deliver safe, reliable, and quality water services by enhancing the technical expertise of its frontline staff.

It also demonstrated the value of continued collaboration between EWSC and its cooperating partners in improving water quality management and service delivery for communities across Eastern Province.
