From 15 to 18 September 2026, Eastern Water and Sanitation Company Limited (EWSC) strengthened the capacity of its staff through a three day Grant Sourcing and Proposal Development Training, supported under the GIZ NEWZA Programme.

The three day training brought together 11 EWSC staff members and was aimed at equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills in resource mobilisation, grant sourcing and proposal development to support sustainable water and sanitation service delivery.

Speaking during the opening of the training, EWSC Managing Director, Eng. Aaron Milunda, said the programme comes at a critical time as the water and sanitation sector seeks opportunities to expand service coverage and strengthen service delivery.

“This will help us foster partnerships with the private sector, NGOs and development institutions,” said Eng. Milunda.

He added that the training would strengthen participants’ understanding of institutional frameworks and approaches for long term resource mobilisation and organisational resilience.

Throughout the training, participants engaged in sessions covering sustainable finance and resource mobilisation, internal revenue generation, external financing, climate finance, public private partnerships, donor engagement, proposal development and institutional resource mobilisation strategies.

The programme also included practical exercises, including the development and presentation of draft project proposals, partnership mapping and action planning, enabling participants to identify potential projects and resource mobilisation opportunities.

The capacity building initiative forms part of EWSC’s efforts to strengthen organisational capacity and improve access to resources needed to advance water and sanitation infrastructure and service delivery.
